Discover Locanta Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom trading as Locanta, is the data controller for the personal data described here. That means we decide what personal data is collected through Locanta and why. Contact us at hello@discoverlocanta.com.

• Account details — email address, display name, optional profile picture. Used to create and secure your account.
• Preferences — chosen city or coordinates, search radius, categories. Used to show relevant nearby businesses.
• Activity — swipes, favourites, collections, reviews and support or bug reports you send. Used to provide the service and support.
• Business details — for owners: listing content and a business contact email, used for moderation and account communication.
• Usage and device data — anonymous product events (profile views, link clicks), device identifiers, IP address and log data. Used for security, fraud prevention and product improvement.

• Contract — providing your account, listings, favourites and paid subscriptions.
• Legitimate interests — keeping the platform secure and free of fake listings, and improving the product.
• Consent — precise device location and any optional analytics or marketing cookies; you can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation — tax, accounting and responding to lawful requests.

To rank the businesses nearest and most relevant to you, to power swiping, favourites, collections, search and reviews, to manage subscriptions, and to keep the platform free of fake listings. Your precise coordinates are readable only by you and authorised administrators.

• We only access your device location after you grant permission.
• You can keep using Locanta without precise location — just choose a town or postcode instead.
• Without location permission, nearby recommendations and distances may be less accurate.
• You can revoke location permission at any time in your device or browser settings, and change your saved location in the app.

Owners of a listing receive anonymous statistics about their own business only, such as:

• profile views;
• favourites;
• website clicks;
• phone button taps;
• directions requests.

Business owners never receive personal information about individual users. Reviews you publish show your display name, because they are public.

• Service emails — account verification, password resets, subscription and billing updates, and security notifications. These are needed to run your account, so they aren't optional.
• Marketing emails — only sent where you have given consent.
• You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time, in one click.

We don't sell your data. We share it only with:

• Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of subscriptions, payment processing, subscription management, invoicing, fraud checks and tax compliance. Paddle handles your payment data as its own controller.
• Service providers — hosting, database, email delivery and analytics providers acting as our processors.
• Professional advisers — legal and accounting, where needed.
• Authorities — where required by law.

When you choose to open a business location in Google Maps or another mapping service, you leave Locanta and your interaction is governed by that provider's own privacy policy. The same applies when you follow a business's website or social media link.

Locanta uses automated systems to:

• detect spam;
• detect fake business listings;
• detect fraudulent activity, including free-trial abuse;
• improve recommendations;
• improve search results.

Important decisions affecting your account may be reviewed by a member of our team.

Locanta is intended for users aged 16 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has given us their data, please contact us.

Some providers process data outside the UK/EEA. Where that happens we rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses with appropriate additional safeguards.

• Account and profile data — while your account is active, then deleted within 30 days of deletion.
• Swipes and location preferences — up to 24 months, or until you clear them.
• Reviews and public listing content — retained while published; anonymised on account deletion.
• Support and bug reports — up to 24 months.
• Billing and transaction records — 7 years, to meet UK tax and accounting obligations.

• Deleting your account permanently removes your personal data wherever we can do so.
• Some information, such as billing and tax records, must be kept to meet our legal obligations.
• Public reviews may be anonymised rather than deleted, so the rating history of a business stays accurate.

We delete or anonymise personal data once it is no longer needed for these purposes.

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR you can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local supervisory authority.

• Download everything we hold from Settings → Manage saved data.
• Clear your swipe history at any time.
• Delete your account permanently — this removes your data with it.

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, least-privilege administrative access and audit logging of staff actions.
